We made it to Stockton! Thus far the tour has been a rolling gaggle of grins. Those of us continuing on to Yosemite are shaking the dew from our tents and eagerly waiting for the cauldron of porridge to begin steaming. We have a few days of uphill ahead!

Photos of the trip are beginning to trickle into the Wheeled Migration Flickr Group Pool – enjoy!

Dinner with Puentes in Stockton!

Friday, March 12th, 2010

The Spring Sojourn is now joining with the incredible Puentes project for dinner in Stockton.

Puentes focuses on sharing sustainable models across culture, demographics, and income and applying them within Stockton. Their work and wisdom of food security, appropriate technology, and localized agriculture will join us over a community potluck.

We’re thrilled to be headed through Stockton and to share an evening with such great people. See you soon Puentes!

A Prayer for Wheeled Migration

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

Dresden Holden helped found Wheeled Migration in 2008. The ride ignited her passion for bicycle touring and she’s been on the road ever since.

Here she offers a prayer in poem to new riders. Enjoy.

A Prayer for Wheeled Migration.
By Dresden Holden

May the wind be at your back.
May you lead with your heart.
May your laughs become prayers.
May your words float skyward to the clouds.
May you dissolve into each passing moment,
And each moment dissolve effortlessly into the next.
May you break bread, crack jokes
And don’t forget to stretch. (and don’t forget to butter your crack!)
May your eyes see unknowns in vivid colors.
May you ride with thunder and sleep in silence.
May you ride in silence and heed the thunder within;
May you follow it, and chase it, to the core! (may that thunder not be gas!)
May your wheels tickle the spines of lonely valley roads,
And rouse the views of ancient granite cliffs.
May sunlight crawl up onto outstretched shoulders,
Feeding each new cell born of your body—
Born in mid stride.
May you all travel down the road like blessed prayer beads;
Strung together with strength and love.
May music manifest as you…break wind…?

To my friends, the songbirds—

I will watch for you in the forms of wind moving through trees and hawks in the sky.

MaMuse to send off the Sojourn!

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

The incredible bike loving, roots folk duo MaMuse will bid Wheeled Migration fond farewells as we embark on our first Spring Sojourn tour.

From 9 to 10am Saturday, March 13th we will mark our send off with music and a bike social cruise though the blooming orchards just beyond Chico.

Every bicycle can ride this leisurely event. You are invited to bring out that flashy weekend bike, your tandem, fixie, beach cruiser, or your dusty old Rockhopper and come celebrate the simple joy of riding a bicycle.

See MaMuse at 9:30 beside the fountain in downtown Chico. Alto Sarah Nutting remarked, “we’ll be there playing on our unicycle and thumping that upright bass!”

With a their second full length album now on the way, MaMuse is planning their own grand bicycle adventure in what they call The Strange&Wonderful Bicycle Tour! Keep an ear out for these two women this April.
